Who We Are

Community Technical Aid (CTA) is a voluntary organisation. It is managed by a committee elected each year by its members and was established by community groups in 1984 to assist projects benefiting disadvantaged communities. Membership of CTA is free and is open to all community groups and voluntary organisations.
What We Do

CTA employs planners, architects and development staff to assist disadvantaged and excluded communities to:

  • improve their areas;
  • prepare community plans and strategies;
  • develop community facilities and amenities;
  • respond to planning and development proposals; and
  • present their views on major planning and strategic initiatives.

We assist projects in both rural and urban areas. Projects must be of benefit to disadvantaged communities, be actively committed to community participation and meet our criteria for project selection (See Guidelines). Facilitating consultation and community participation in major planning processes also forms a significant part of our work.

How We Work With Groups

We receive a grant from the Department of the Environment. We use this grant aid to provide some of our services at no cost to groups in areas of greatest need who would otherwise not be able to obtain the assistance we offer. Where funders would normally support groups to obtain the type of assistance we provide we charge a fee for our work. Income from fees also supports our free work.
